Clutch repairsMount Louisa.

A clutch that slips pulling up the hill, judders off the line or has gone heavy under your foot is living on borrowed time. We rebuild the full assembly with quality parts, machine the flywheel when it calls for it, and price the lot before we touch it. The workshop is a couple of minutes down Bayswater Road in Garbutt.

Why it matters

A slipping clutchnever fixes itself.

The climb back up to Mount Louisa and the stop-start crawl down into town are hard going on a clutch, and a worn one only heads one way. Sorting it early keeps the job contained and keeps you off the side of the road waiting for a lift.

Sort it before it strands you

Slipping and shuddering are the early warning. Book it in now and it is a planned repair, not a car that will not move at the lights on a Monday morning.

Save the flywheel and gearbox

Leave a worn clutch too long and it scores the flywheel and leans on the gearbox, turning a clutch job into a much dearer one.

Clean shifts again

A fresh clutch brings back smooth take-off, easy gear changes and a car that is a pleasure to drive in traffic instead of a chore.

What you get

A full clutchrebuild.

We replace the whole assembly and machine the flywheel where it needs it, on cars, utes, 4WDs and diesels.

The revs climb but the car will not pick up speed
A pedal gone hard, stiff or oddly spongy
A grab or judder as you let the clutch out
Crunching, or a fight to find a gear
A hot, burning smell after hills or heavy traffic

Common questions

The questionswe hear most.

Still not sure? Give the workshop a call or send a message and we will sort it.

  • Straight down the hill to our Garbutt workshop, a couple of minutes along Bayswater Road. A clutch is usually about a day on the bench, so book it in, leave it with us or use the secure after-hours key drop, and you will get it back with the take-up feeling crisp again.

  • Common giveaways are the revs flaring while the car holds its speed, a pedal that has gone heavy or strangely soft, a shudder as you pull away, gears that fight you, or a burnt smell. Strike any of those and it is worth getting it inspected.

  • Typically 100,000 to 150,000 km, though heavy loads, a steady diet of stop-start traffic and the daily pull up the hill all shave that down. It really comes back to how, and where, the car gets driven.

  • It turns on the vehicle and whether the flywheel has to be machined while it is apart. You get a straight, firm figure up front before any of the work kicks off.

  • Week in, week out. Hilux, Ranger, LandCruiser, Triton, D-Max and the heavier diesel rigs included, fitted with quality parts chosen to match the kind of work the vehicle does.

  • It can. Run a slipping clutch too long and it scores the flywheel and puts strain through the gearbox, both far pricier to fix than the clutch itself. Catching it early is the cheaper road every time.
