Castle Mechanical technician measuring a brake rotor at the Garbutt workshop for a Currajong customer

Why it matters

Brakes are the lastthing to skimp on.

Driving around Currajong leans hard on the brakes, with the constant stop-start through the established streets and the run out to Ross River Road. Worn brakes never recover on their own, and a quick look now keeps you safe and keeps the repair small.

Shorter stops when you need them

Thin pads and tired fluid stretch your stopping distance out. Fresh brakes give you the grab you want the moment a car edges out in front of you on Charles Street.

A quiet fault caught early

A five-minute brake check turns up thinning pads or fading fluid well before a small job becomes a dangerous one.

Pads now, not rotors later

Let pads wear down to the backing and they cut into the rotors. Catch them in time and a simple pad swap never turns into a full rotor replacement.

What you get

A proper brakecheck and repair.

Anything from a fast front-pad change to a full hydraulic overhaul, on cars, utes and 4WDs alike.

A high-pitched squeal every time you ease off
Grinding, or a rough metal-on-metal scrape
A pedal that feels soft, spongy or sinks to the floor
The car pulling to one side as you brake
A shudder or pulsing coming back through the pedal
The brake or ABS light lit up on the dash

Common questions

The questionswe hear most.

Still not sure? Give the workshop a call or send a message and we will sort it.

  • Our Garbutt workshop, a few minutes from Currajong once you cut across Nathan Street. Book a time, leave the car with us, and we will pull the wheels, measure everything and quote the repair before a spanner touches it.

  • Go on what you hear and feel. A squeal as you slow, a gritty grind, a pedal that sinks or a shimmy through it when you stop are all flags. We gauge the pad thickness and test the fluid, then show you the numbers.

  • Generally somewhere between 40,000 and 80,000 km, but your driving swings it a long way. A lot of short stop-start trips or carrying heavy loads wears them down faster. We measure them at every service so you get warning, not a surprise.

  • A squeal is normally the built-in wear indicator scraping to say the pads are running low. A grind is more serious: the pad material is spent and metal is chewing the rotor, so that one needs booking in immediately before the rotors are wrecked.

  • That depends on whether it is just pads, rotors that need machining, or hydraulic parts as well, plus the vehicle itself. We inspect first, walk you through what we find, then lock in a firm price before starting.

  • If they are grinding or the pedal has gone soft, no, you have lost stopping power and that is a real risk. It is tempting to nurse it around the quiet streets, but get it in before your next run down Woolcock Street or out onto the highway.
